What is a Subnet Owner?

Think of subnet owners as AI project leaders. They design specific tasks for their subnet's miners to solve. For example, an owner might create a subnet focused on language translation or image processing. They set the rules for how miners and validators work together in their subnet.

Responsibilities

Subnet owners define how their network operates. They create the incentive mechanism that determines how miners get scored. They also provide clear documentation so participants understand the subnet's goals and requirements.

Subnet Creation

To create a subnet, owners must lock TAO tokens as a deposit. The tokens remain locked until the subnet is dissolved or deregistered.

Economic Benefits

Subnet owners receive 18% of their subnet's daily TAO emissions . These rewards come from the network's emission system, which is influenced by root validator weights . Better-performing subnets can earn more rewards when root validators assign them higher weights relative to other subnets.
